Peach Pubs
Building a versatile image library for Peach Pubs required a narrative-driven approach to commercial hospitality photography that stayed true to their core identity. As a collection of really great pubs across the heart of England, Peach focuses on serving good quality, fresh, honest food and drink in relaxed, welcoming surroundings. Across multiple seasonal shoots, the objective was to capture this specific “Peachy” character—ensuring that while every pub in the collection is different, the high quality of the food and the warmth of the welcome remained a consistent visual thread.
The Brief: Human Connection & Authentic Lighting
The creative brief moved away from static, clinical setups in favour of authentic lifestyle photography that reflected the brand’s “honest” food philosophy. To achieve this, I focused on three key areas:
- Human Presence: By utilising “hands-in-frame” techniques—whether pouring a jug of gravy over a Sunday roast or serving a vibrant summer dessert—I added a layer of interaction that made the viewer feel like a participant in the meal.
- Point of view: I like to shoot on a long lens—looking through wine glasses or plants on the table to really give the viewer the feeling they are at the table when they look at the images.
- Natural Lighting: Whether capturing the “cosy” warmth of a winter roast by the fire or the bright, sun-drenched feel of al fresco dining, I used lighting to evoke specific seasonal moods while keeping the look honest and unforced. Using harsher shadows or dappled light from natural sources subtly reinforces that outdoor look.
- Texture & Detail: Using macro-style close-ups, I highlighted the sensory details that make the food look its best—from the crisp edge of a Yorkshire pudding to the creamy head of a perfectly poured Guinness.
Strategy:
The project spanned various environments, requiring a flexible approach to location photography to capture the different characters of the pubs.
For the indoor “cosy” sessions, the lighting was designed to feel intimate and grounded, emphasising rich textures like dark wood tables and deep autumnal tones. In contrast, the outdoor lifestyle shots utilised a brighter, higher-key palette to reflect the energy of summer dining, ensuring the brand’s social media and web content felt fresh and relevant year-round.
The Outcome
The resulting images provided Peach Pubs with a cohesive visual identity across their digital and print marketing. By prioritising honest food styling and spontaneous-feeling moments, the photography bridged the gap between high-end culinary craft and the approachable, community-focused hospitality that Peach is known for.
